Supposed to be heading to Chicago to meet a friend doing the Great Loop. I've heard rumors that they may be closing the Illinois and that water levels are extremely low in the Mississippi (his boat draws 6 ft). Any local reports would be helpful.

The Illinois is indeed open. The water levels are significantly lower on the Mississippi, the last word was down 12 feet, but this is only affecting commercial vessels and ships. No recreational vessels have been affected that I am aware of. Chuck
