Thinking about ways to add some inexpensive compact storage to the boat, and had the idea to mount a shoe rack on the aft bulkhead in the aft berth. thinking that Ikea may actually have something that would work I found this.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00148563/

If it fits I would put it on the bulkhead pictured in the top left of the attached picture.

Thoughts? Never bought anything from Ikea before so I don't know if it would hold up in the humidity.

Particleboard, foil back panel, fiberboard? Maybe, if you kept it dry, but I'd say not.

Yeah, that was was my initial thought. Maybe if you were to coat all surfaces of all the pieces with epoxy before you assemble it.

I had this thing right ware you are thinking of putting that thing. It was a PITA. Great for storing stuff but would open and dump if you heeled too much. A PO had a great idea of screwing it down and .... well, it was just a mess.
I removed it last Saturday and re-screwed it to the seat on the starboard side leaving enough space to get to the fuse panel and enough to put the companion way hatch cover behind it. It's still in the way but the stuff is easier to pick up off the floor than way back in the aft berth.

The one I am looking at is quite different than the one you have in the picture, it doesn't have drawers, it has doors that close inward and downward / open upward and forward, and it would be mounted facing forward so that no amount of heel would put any opening load on the doors. The only action that could put any opening load would be the bow slamming into a large wave, and then not too much.

Ok Fourpoints. But ware would you mount it? On the Aft wall facing forward or hang it down from the top? Isn't that the only way to get to the aft berth? I'm just saying it will be another thing to get around on the way back there. (My wife and I sleep in our aft berth and let Squeaky have the V-berth.)
Here is a photo with the radio and amp on the port side just above the aft berth. It is just that much more difficult to get in there with only that there...

Sorry about the picture. It's taken from in front of the head when I was getting the moldy foam out of the V-berth. You can see a plywood box on the right of the ladder and my buddies calf just below ware the cockpit mold comes down to.
Looks like its out of the way. Well, it is and it is a pain to get at because you have to bend down to see what you are doing. I'm planing to move it to open that area up this winter.
Maybe tape a cardboard box the size of the thing you want to place there in the spot and see if its in the way.

You sleep laying port to starboard in the aft berth, at the aft side of the berth there is a bulkhead seperating the lazerette and the cabin. I would mount it on the bulkhead in the berth.

You climb straight back to the berth through as seen through the picture.

I am going to measure it out next time I'm down at the boat, but I think I can fit 3 of these units as poorly pencil'd in to the image with the mouse in MS Paint :)...
