I too have noticed this on my 28.5. I have 2 battries and will switch to cranking battery only (#1) and it will start right up, then switch back to the "both" setting for charging. I also have swithched to battery #2 for cruising to insure that battry #1 will remain ready to start the motor. good luck. John C.
