Careful what you buy...

You might find it hard to locate, as I did. I went to the Yanmar dealer, gave him the spec on thn year of the engine and showed him an existing key, and he sold me (for $5) a key that did not work. The shank was too long. Later he told me the engine was so old he couldn't get the key and thought the newer one would work. About that same time the old switch fell apart, I rewired it with a modern keyed setup and eliminated the need for a Yanmar key. Good luck. Sanders SV Good News Sacramento

I replaced mine with...

a unit from an automotive store.. the key has very little to do with the engine other than transferring the current to the starter. So, purchased an automotive switch with key for about 20 bucks and she starts without knowing the difference. good luck.

Key to success

I have a H 34 and I tried the regular Master Lock key, the same lock I use on the lazarettes and main hatchboards. It works with no modification. Tried it on several other Hunters and other boats with Yanmar and it works on them all. One key now fits the whole boat.

You might be surprised

You might be surprised I lost my keys and had to pull the ignition switch. Took it to a lock smith, who after looking at it with a scope said the lock was not keyed, He then took a black key stock and proceeded to work the switch. To make a long story short, I could start my boat with a screw driver if I had to. The ignition switch is the original installed by hunter in 1984. I guess my security is the power switch in the cabin.

2QM15 ignition key

I use the same key that fits all the small Master padlocks on my H33. I think you could use just about any flat object to turn the ignition switch.

Every Key is a Yanmar Key

I asked the same question a couple of years ago and someone responded that any key of about the same size would work - they were right! Go to your junk drawer and find any old small key - it will work. Good luck Joe M.
