I hope soon to be a first time sailboat owner. I am considering an 1989 O'Day 302. However, I'm concerned by the expression that I've heard - "If O'Day, and Gray, Stay Away!" apparently referring to inadequacies in the gray boats built before in the late 80's. Should I be concerned or is this simply myth? What do owners think of the 302? Thanks

I have owned 4 O'Day's, 3 were "grey" 240, 280 & my current 322. My only problems were the boats were too small, my error not O'day's. Our 322 is perfect for us, however the O'day 40 also looks great too. It is only a myth that the white o'days were better than the gray o'days, I saw no difference in the quality of the boats I owned or in the difference in friends' boats who currently own white O'days.

Grey is OK!

I just bought 1989 O'Day 302. Had to move it from Rochester NY to Buffalo via Lake Ontario, the Welland Canal then back to Buffalo. We came out of the Welland @ 1:00am in 20+ winds and the seas @ 6 - 8 foot with a few 10's thrown in along the way. About a 25 mile reach from Port Colborne to Buffalo and the boat handled the weather just fine. Very stable and comfortable boat. Enjoy!
