Ideas on how to re-bed stanchions?

On my First 285, 1990, a couple of stanchions are loose, and leaking through the bolt hole beneath them. I removed one stachion base, but the bolt that is horizontal through toe rail sheared off, and was brutal to deal with. How can I re-bed these without removing the base? Should I put larger/better backing plates on the bolt going though the deck into the cabin? Is there a way to get the horizontal bolts out without shearing them? Thanks for advice anyone can offer.

rebedding

Ivan, unfortuantely I don't think that you can do a proper job of rebedding your stanchions without removing them since you really won't get the bedding compound in the hole and surrounding area. The horizonal bolts sounds like it might be a bit of galvanic corrosion because of the two disimiliar metals. If that is the case than you just have to work through it. You might try spraying them with like WD-40 or a product like that but I doubt it will be that helpful. Maybe heat will help ease it a bit obviously you need to be very careful around the fiberglass and everything else. When you replace the bolts try putting a rubber washer or something that can act as a barrier so the corrosion doesn't become such a factor. Good luck Charlie
