So the weather sucks and I've been planning my next great adventure. I've been playing around with Active Captains new route planning feature and have mapped out a two day trip starting at Kiptopeake (DelMarVa Pennisula) to Chincoteague Island with an over night at Cobb's island.

Here is the part I have not figured out and was hopping you all had a clever idea or personal experience. I'd like to drive my boat to Kiptopeake and sail to Chincoteague but I'd need a ride back to Kiptopeake to pick up the trailer. Does anyone know of a taxi or bus service etc. that exists in that area? The only other option I can think of is to drive up in two vehicles and leave one at each place. But with the cost of gas these days I figure it would be cheaper and more environmentally sound to figure another ride option.

Suggestions?

I'd look into renting a car at the destination. We had to get our Suburban from Ft. Myers Beach up to Englewood, FL about the same distance you are going. We rented a car with I believe Nation Wide for about $35 for the day and drove it and the Suburban up and dropped it off and then took the rental back to Ft. Myers Beach and they drove us down to the boat and dropped us off.

You might be able to rent a car near where you put in and put the boat in and then drive the rental and your rig down to the take-out and drop it off and go back to the boat or do it the other way around if you can find a rental where you are taking out.

Good luck and it looks like a nice trip,

Sum

One of my friends had a problem like that years ago and he solved it very easy with his powerboat.
He wanted to bring his truck and trailer over to Martha's Vineyard Island, Ma. and drive his boat to the island by water. After he found out that he had to pay the same fare for his trailer that he had to pay for his truck he wasn't too happy about that, so he tied the trailer up to the bottom of his boat and backed it into the water and unhooked it. One of his friends brought the truck over in the ferry boat and he powered his boat over to the Vineyard with the trailer tied to the underside of his boat. True store and we still chuckle about it to this day. :D

Okay... now that so obvious I feel like my I.Q. just dropped a few points.... Thanks Sum... I"ll see if Chinco. Is. has a rental car biz and if not I'm betting I can find one just across the bay bridge in VA Beach.

Fair winds,

Where on Smith Mountain Lake do you keep your boat at. By the way, what was the first thing to cross Hales Ford Bridge when the ribbon was cut. I was there.

Hey Crazy Dave:

We have talked before. Actually you called me in my office once (at SBC).. and I used to be at VMI. At the time I was looking into buying a Catalina and was waffling between the fixed wing keel version and the swing.

I used to keep a boat at Lake Haven marina but now I keep it on my trailer and launch from there regularly (Buoy C3)
