Ideas for location of 12v outlets

I need more power - or at least more places to get power. On my 336 there's a cigarette lighter style outlet near the autopilot in the cockpit - and that's it! Not one in the galley, head or even the nav station. What have you done, what were the problems, and what were the results? Ned Strain s/v Family Therapy h336 '95 Chicago

I used my fan circuit and locations

Rather than rewire I mounted 12v outlets at all fan locations and modified the existing fans by slicing male plugs to the wire. In the V-Berth I use a 2 outlet add-on plug I bought at a auto parts store when I want to run the fan and small TV at the same time.

Ned, when I had my 336, I wired in a 12V socket at the nav station. Fairly easy to wire it in use a spare breaker switch on the panel. Ran the wires behind the cedar panels in the locker just aft of the nav station. The worst part was drilling a 1" hole in the panel, just hated to put a hole that nice piece of teak. From there I used a 12' 12V extension cord from Radio Shack and I believe they also sell a 2 into 1 adapter. Just size your breaker switch and wires appropriately to the load that you think you will be pulling. Paul Bednarzyk S/V Knot Again

I wired...

a 12v. outlet on the port side coming down hatchway by the engine compartment. Since I don't have any outlets on my 31 in the cockpit this is close enough. The idea of drilling hole in fiberglass was tough to do(mindset. Also I have a LED in red light that I plug in at nite for a nite light for the kids who sleep in the aft birth.)
