Not a big deal!
We just came through Hell Gate a few days ago on our way back to the Chesapeake Bay by way of the ICW (currently in Wrightsville Beach, NC). We are a Hunter 450 with a 5'-6" ++ draft. The markers are there. However one of the range markers is missing and had been missing for a year.If you use a chart plotter the channels and range indicators are located on the electronic charts (at least on C-Map).Having done the ICW for a few years now, we know were the problems are and do take them with a mid-tide or more. Skipper Bob's web site also has updates regarding the ICW and is very good. The problem with GA is that in the last federal Fiscal Budget, GA failed to request money for the ICW. So this budget they will be requesting money. We have seen several Core of Engineers boats surveying the GA area. Relax, with a few navigation skills and paying attention to the tides you can get through the whole ICW with out touching. We have done the whole ICW and not touched several times, and when we do it is because of my in attentiveness or pushing the limits. And 99.9% of it is just mud or sand.Gordon on Utopia III, a h450
