The cover on the cable of some Icom Command mics are prone to premature failure. The cover just disintegrates! Today I ordered a replacement cable but am a bit concerned about attachment at the mic end.

In the attached picture, marked with two red arrows, it looks like there may be a SS spring clip and white glue/sealant at the point where the cable enters the plastic casing. Anyone done this job and dealt with the arrowed material?

You would likely be best served by calling Icom.

Did this a couple of times trying to fix a short, that I thought was in the cable, but ended up getting a entire new unit.

It is just a u-clip that fits around a slot on the cable.. Pull up with needle nose pliers. The sealant is just sealant and will give when you pull.

The original unit I had was white, but yellowed very quickly as did the replacement cables. The entire new unit seem to be coated or a heavier cable and is still bright white.
