Just went to check on the boat after the really cold weather and I noticed some Ice (not frozen soild but on the lines of a sulpee.) Should this be a concern? The ice has the color of the antifreeze they used to winterize the water system. Thanks for all of the continued support

Not entirely clear what you are describing - water in the bilge which has partially frozen and is the color of pink antifreeze? If so, the pink residue may have come from whatever drained while winterinzing the water system? If so, this type antifreeze does not prevent freezing if diluted with water. If it is pure pink antifreeze in the bilge devoid of water, it typically crystalizes rather than form a solid upon freezing which may explain what you are seeing. If you stayed in the water, the bilge temp will be moderated by the ambient temp of the bay and not freeze too quickly even with the current cold spell. If you are concerned, drop a gallon of ethylene glycol antifreeze, which is intended to be diluted with water, in the bilge.

'Pink Stuff'

We never use anything less than -60 to -100 degree rated antifreeze for the engine winterizing. With what's left we winterize the seacocks before haul out; open them after haul out. We don't use 'pink stuff' in anything and drain the water heater, water tank and blow out the lines and pump. In short, the cheap 'pink stuff' freezes or crystalizes at surprisingly normal winter temperatures. I'd hope what you are seeing is spill over and not burst or leaking from something you thought you winterized. Be sure to re-check the seawater intake glass sided strainer if you have one.

Thanks again

Thanks. The engine is fine. I put the antifreeze into the blidge. So now it will be a wait till spring and keep my fingers crossed. I thought that all the water was drained, antifreeze installed in holding tanks and then we ran the system until the "pink" was coming out od all fixtures. Next year I wil blow out the water lines.

When it's cold, my boat's a little leaky

I end up getting rain water in my bilge. Ironically it's bone dry all summer while in the water. I pour some of the pink stuff in there keep the water from freezing. It will freeze slightly (just like a slurpee) but never solid. Can you check with whoever winterized the boat to find out if they poured some antifreeze in the bilge? Manny
