Ice Box Conversion

Hi all,
We have a Crealock 40 with an approximately 11cf icebox that we want to convert to a fridge. The question is:

Do we have to get a cooling plate that will cool 11+ cf? Or can we double up on two 6 cf cooling plate setups?

We know two plates means two of everything (plates, condensers, etc) but due to the shape of the icebox, it would be easier to put in 2 of the 6cf conversions....

Any ideas?

Yesterday I ordered a new refrigerator for my Sabre 362 from Seafrost.

If plumbed correctly, two cooling plates can run off one compressor. The Grunnert system I'm replacing does just that. The SeaFrost freezer box has 2 cooling plates running off one compressor.

Give Cleave a call at Seafrost. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. For the unit I just purchased, the compressor is a stock unit and he is building a custom shaped cooling plate to fit the box. The completed fridge will have 2 vertical ice trays and a small computer fan to move air around the box to cool more efficiently. Based on the advice from friends we went for the electronic temp control as the manual (cheap) controls tend to ice up in some applications.

Seafront is a small company with an outstanding reputation for quality and service. When you call them, you talk directly to Cleave, the owner. Be forewarned, he's likes to chat. Friends who have installed SeaFrost units are extremely pleased with them, many are replacing older engine driven Seafront units. They are price competitive with the big guys like Webasto and Alder-Barbour.

double everything sounds like a terrible idea. They will be fighting one another and power use will be excessive. There are systems that you can bend the plates to conform to a box. I know Isotherm makes them. I came across them when I converted my icebox.

Cannot say enough positive about SeaFrost and Cleave. Replaced my original unit with total conversion from SeaFrost. Dual plates with a single compressor. Five years + with the unit and zero regrets or issues.
