IC 34 1980 traveller raised fixture

I have some weakness in the raised portion on which the traveller sits and am looking for suggestions from anyone who has made repairs to traveller on an IC34.

Two more photos with the traveller removed.

I think I have to take the "top layer" off the uprights and rebuild the inside of them.
