Buck...

As Ross will tell you, the bridge is not that big a deal if your mast is under 50' off the water. Not much to sail and see above Garrett Is. at the bridge, unless you want to go to Tomes Landing for some reason. There's just too many trains every day to keep it open and close it for traffic as is done in other locations. The view gives the train travelers something to look at and be envious of...

Ross- I understand, but only agree to a point-

Yes, when someone posts with an issue, a problem or asks for advice, it's just decent to acknowledge the help. I'm guessing if these people were stranded on the side of the road, they'd be quick to thank the stranger that stopped for them (which is what alot of you guys are doing). So, in that regard, I agree completely.

But there are some posters, and Tonyb comes to mind, that asks questions, or makes statements with the sole purpose of starting a discussion. For me, when I have nothing to fix on the boat (is that even possible?!?), reading those type of posts is like listening to alot of people in a big conversation- it's interesting and often amusing. Most of the time, I don't even realize the original poster hasn't responded.

By the way, Ross- thanks for keeping me tuned in.

I think

or I used to think. Gave it up for Lent one day and haven't had a thought since. I think.
Anyway, I think that a lot of these people are hoaxes or social basket cases.
Imagine calling up a New and Used car dealership and telling them "I need a vehicle" and leave your phone number. Don't even think about what vehicle is for or amount of money you want to spend.
Also notice, that they don't ever fill out a profile except for maybe their screen name.
Makes one wonder.
I try to respond to a lot of replies to my posts as a courtesy and aknowledgement.
Anyway, I have decided not to respond to these kind of posts any more. Just like in Ham radio. No call sign.....no response.

You said "there are some posters, and Tonyb comes to mind, that asks questions, or makes statements with the sole purpose of starting a discussion."
Am I that obvious when I'm bored? LOL

Jim, I told you that I* wasn't smart enough to

find out how to give notice 24 hours in advance to get that bridge open on signal. However you said that I would be easy to make it happen so I told you to prove it. So far you have come up empty. ;D

Ross, don't sell your self short

you have come a long way. You know for a fact the bridge was wielded shut at one point and now you know it can open. You can figure it out but first I would recommend you get a boat with a stick bigger than 52 feet so you have a reason. Then you can work on the next steps. They are not going to open the bridge every day there is too much train traffic. They will do it if there is a real reason as require by law. Commerical boat traffic has the right of way.

Jim , I know that it "Will" open I have talked to people that are

on the track gang that cut the welds when it must be opened. What I challenge you to tell us is who to notify complete with phone numbers. That is what I can't find. With your superior intellect you should be able to apply yourself to this mystery and post an answer.

Jim

Ross, you know the track gang guys that cuts the welds?

I am not even going to answer this post because I am a gentleman. But I would say prove it. Should me a where is says the track gang cuts the weilds. You can't because they are bolted.

You sir are tad bit rude, no no, little bit and sometimes mistaken. That is ok because I am too. The only different is I admit it.

Ross, you are too smart for me....

I can't find the info. Darn you win this one and everyone. You know more than anyone I know about sailing. Maybe some day I'll have 1/2 the sailing experience you have read about :).
