I've seen about a million pictures on the H260 Owner's Mods pages that show shiny new AM/FM receivers installed. They also show nice-looking speakers installed. But dang, I can't find anything that explains how and where to run the wires.

I really like the idea of mounting the stereo in the ceiling. This link shows a ceiling mounted stereo with speakers under the seats. (I won't be building the VERY nice box. I'm just not that handy.) http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/in...id=267&cat_id=20&aid=8088&page=article&mn=260 I have pulled a fish tape for the power wires but can't for the life of me figure out how to pull the speaker wires to under the seats.

Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I am considering mounting speakers under the stern rail seats on my 240. This old post indicates the support rail is open all the way to the mounting flange- and you can drill in the center of the 3 mounting bolts from inside the cabin and pull a wire up to an exit hole under the seat. Maybe someone can confirm this on the 260.

Have you seen these? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=297-224
There was a thread earlier in the year and the poster had installed and really like them. You adhere them inside a bulkhead and they turn the bulkhead into a speaker. Phil of the C27 refit/refurb thread is a guru on A/V stuff and knows a lot about these.
I wish I had known about them before I spent the time building boxes for my speakers, and hanging them on the bulkhead.

I have the same challenge as Kermit. I bought a stereo at a really good "no longer stocked" price (like $80?) that has a control unit separate from the amp - you can put the amp hidden, like maybe under the storage shelf, and the control face feet away with a wiring harness. I also bought some small auto speakers. I was thinking of building some sort of box in which to mount each speaker (two boxes), maybe from very thin ply and stained. I'd mount each to the wood bulkhead at the fore end of the main cabin. I don't like the idea of cutting holes to mount them in the "wall" below each berth.

I think the only way to run the wires would be along the edge of the bulkhead top, along the ceiling, then down the hull to bulkhead joint, hidden away as best as possible in the mouse fur. We could peel that back and inch and then reglue over the wires. Once down to the level of the salon seats, easy to run back through the storage lockers. I am not sure if you could try to run them above the ceiling liner, but I'd not want to try that,

i mounted my stereo under the sink. it faces the starboard side of the boat and hides nicely when the sink is slid back. made a support beam and tied the back of the radio down to it. worked good. mounted two $50.00 west marine speakers in the middle storage compartments to get as much bass as possible. works good. radio was $80.00 and is a kenwood with a USB port. got it on crutchfiled, refurbed.
