Greetings - I recently started work selling Hunters for Voyager Marine in Marina del Rey, CA. My first sale was a 23.5 to a very happy couple who love the boat. They have elected to keep it at a slip rather than on their trailer for right now,as they love to use the boat every weekend. It's been in the water(sea water)for a month now and the water in the ballast tank is starting to smell - probably due to the demise of little creatures! Any suggestions other than draining the tank ? I originally posted to the main forum and just got a reply from Phil HERRING, which seemed an appropriate name for my problem! He also said that Peggie is good with bad smells - no idea what that means!! Please respond to jpwvoymar@aol.com Cheers - Cap'n Jon

Stagnant sea water stinks...

You can deal with the odor temporarily by throwing some bleach in the tanks, but that's only a "band aid" at best...sooner or later, just like a bilge, you're gonna have to really CLEAN 'em--drain, scrub with a good detergent, and THOROUGHLY rinse. How often, depends mostly upon the weather...the molds, fungi and bacteria that cause the odor thrive and multiply faster in hot weather than cool.
