It was a beautiful brisk day for the run from Dutch Harbor to Stonington. Lee and Lynn filled me with envy by sailing much of it. I'm still waiting for them.

I would have been sailing except for the need to get a lot of hours on this engine soon to finish drying out the insides. I'll be doing a short oil change before leaving Long Island Sound.

Rather than bore you with updates on how the oil still looks like it had just been put in the engine (total of about 10 hours running now), I'll just let you know when it turns black.

This is what the breather line liquid trap looked like at the end of the run. It hasn't looked this clean since I first put it in the boat. Something has been going on with the head gasket of this engine for a long time.

I think life is back to normal.

Joker that kit may help you in negotiation of a lower price on a used boat. If its sensitive enough. I bet most engines will show a bit of moisture in the engine. Especially in the spring. It would be quick handy in any case.

Your picture shows you are keeping a secret from us. What chartbook are you using?

If you really want to sail south, why not go outside and avoid hells gate?

I agree with Roger about the trip through Hell Gate and down the East River. The view of Lady Liberty framed by the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges is priceless. And NOW we can view the Freedom Tower too.

That's true.

Why? That is one of the most interesting and impressive parts of the whole East Coast trip.
Few commit to going outside around LI, especially single handing.

I think the whole idea of sailing south down the east coast is mostly a pipe dream. Sure a few boats do it, but simply, most boats don't.

You could spend most of your time in harbors waiting for the right weather. The truth is most boats will enjoy meandering down the ICW and take advantage of conditions to go outside for some sailing to break up the trip. That's been our experience. You're likely to get more sailing coming back in the spring.
