I saw something sad today...

I was checking out some eye candy on sailboatlistings.com today and ran across a 1983 Macgregor 25....

The boat looked brand new, the interior still looked nice but the fabric of the cushions looked like it has been sitting for 40 years in a garage. The trailer looked brand new and the OB even looked new.

HOW DOES A SAILBOAT SIT AROUND FOR 40 YEARS UNUSED:confused::frown::sosad:

I'm sure there is a sad story here.

When a sailor passes away it is not necessarily a sad story. If it were so, I would be really depressed right now. Relatives inherit a boat and no one may volunteer to do something with it. Some may keep it for sentimental reasons and other because they could care less. It is very likely that before listing the boat it was cleaned and shined inside and out, as otherwise it probably looked as bad as the cushions. I like barn finds, but not a McGregor fan.

I have yet to see a family do that for boat that is being sold are part of disposing of an estate.

At my current marina, there are many boats just sitting there deteriorating.
