Hello, I need to make some shrouds for my Mac 25. Can I use 7x19 3/16 s.s. for this boat? I see they use the 1x19 in West Marine Catalog. Thanks, Jerry
Why do you want to use 7x19 for standing rigging? 7x19 is very flexible wire, for halyards and stuff. 1x19 is typically a little stronger (greater breaking strength) for a given diameter than 7x19, and is a little cheaper as well. But with 3/16" diameter, I think you'll be fine using 7x19, strength-wise.
Another problem with the more flexible cables is that they stretch more. That might mean difficulties in standing the rig up, if you have adjusted, say, the shrouds to make up for the stretch. John S
