Hello all, I am new here and I hope someone can help me out. Let me give you some background info. My son Noah a highly motivated, intelligent young guy (12 yrs old) was diagnosed with a genetic condition called fibrous dysplasia. It is a condition that causes the bone in his face to grow uncontrolled. There is no cure, only treatment is to undergo surgery to remove the excess bone. He is due for another surgery in November to remove some excess bone on his face and in his nasal passages. Noah can't breathe through his nose anymore at this point. It doesn't give a 12 yr old a very good outlook with that hanging out in the back of his mind all the time. Noah's biggest dream is to sail his home waters of Penobscot Bay with his family. I am trying to make that dream come true, but with the cost of travelling to and from Dr.'s visits & surgery( we have to travel from Maine to Pennsylvania) that dream is slipping from my grasp. Noah has scoured the net and all the sailing mags he can get his hands on, and has decided his dream boat is the Mac 26M. So, I am appealing to a group of people who know the joys of sailing, to point me in the right direction to be able to find a deal on a Mac to make my little guy's dream come true. Thank you for your time......Richard B.

Richard, You likely have come to the right place, these folks are teriffic. I am not in your area and can't do much to help pull any strings but I sure wish you well and look forward to watching Noah's dreams start becoming more of a reality.

Best wishes for you all. Patti

Has he considered an X instead of the M. I take it that he is interested in a 'power sailer'. You can find X's a lot cheaper than the newer M's and actually I'd probably prefer the X with its swing centerboard if you are sailing thin water at all. It has a couple inches less head room than the M at I believe 5'-10".

Are you aware of the Mac related forums?

The one here.......

http://forums.macgregor.sailboatowners.com/forumdisplay.php?f=68

and two others....

http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/macgregor/index.cgi

this one is heavy into X and M's..

http://www.macgregor26x.com/forum/index.php

also if you go to my links below you will find a lot of Mac sites.

Also here is a way to do a nationwide or regional search on Craigs list and is how we found our Mac.....

The best to you and your boy,

Since those are pretty common boats you should have no much trouble finding one... I'd skip the personal story when negotiating though. Just evaluate the boat without emotion and then wave the cash in their face.
