I dropped my slide gate in the lake...I need to order a new one and I am having a hard time finding out what model I need and how to get it! It is a 1996 280, and the duct tape just isn't impressing anyone! I'd appreciate advise...Thanks! John

That is one of those parts nobody carries.

You would think that with the number of sailors looking for a slide gate to prevent the slides from falling out of the track when lowering or reefing the main that someone would have jumped on the economic opportunity at hand. The cost to manufacture the part should be insignificant compared to what sailors would be willing to pay for them. I think at $20 they would sell like hot cakes. Boat builders did not usually contracted for the gates as it would have added perhaps $1.00 to their costs and spar manufacturers in turn were not producing them in significant quantities or have given up producing them at all. Since the newer designs do not utilize these gates they have gone the way of metal caps for soda bottles. You can get a well intentioned sailor to refer you to a distributor that carries suposedly everything and they will refer you to the spar manufacturer who will refer you back to the dealer. It's like trying to chase your own tail. The answer to the problem is DIY.
