I will be transporting my boat overland from Annapolis-area to Chicago. Any suggestions on a good shipping company?

braol, kind of out of the way but I used Cross Country Boat Transport out of Hastings MN (651) 437-2454 twice and they did a great job both times. You might want to check and see if they are going thru your area on a return run or delivery. Good luck!
You might try the online shipping auction called Uship. Just check the shipper out first before you choose. I like Uship since a lot of shippers use it and bid according to their schedule. They like to bring back a boat after they drop one off. Just keep your pick up time wide open...like a month or so.
I used uShip (it is eBay related). But it is a bit of "buyer beware". Be extremely careful with who you are dealing, check references (I know that this eliminates any new guy, but too bad), and the most important - don't send any money up front. This might be the last time you see the money and the shipper.

Yes, you need to do your homework before you decide on your shipper. My one and only Uship experience was great. I didn't pay until he had her set up on stands. I needed a hydraulic trailer so my options were limited. I ended up saving $1200 over the next lowest bid. It saves a lot of time searching and calling various shippers too. My brother used Uship to move his boat from Illinois to Florida and was very pleased. Like I said early, keep and open timeframe. It will save you a lot of money
I have used Boat Logistics in Montague, Mi. (231)893-0300. They took very good care of me! Check them out online or give them a call.
