I need a new turnbuckle.

I need a new turnbuckle. Unfortunately, my mast, along with all of the standing rigging, is wrapped up and stored for the winter. The turnbuckle I need is at the base of the backstay, where the stay splits.

All of the rigging is original. I know, right now someone is thinking, "Jack, you should really consider replacing the standing rigging." Everyone thinking that is correct. Unfortunately, we are waiting to replace the rigging until about a year before we take off.

Does anyone have a spec, or know where I can get a replacement turnbuckle? I always thought the original one is just a tad on the too short side. So, something a little longer would be even better.

Thanks and happy sailing/boat work!

Hi Jack, are you in the UK?

I'm down in Turkey, but will be back in the UK mid February and have the full set of rigging screws stowed in a locker, which I took off Spring Fever when we re-rigged in 2002, though I don't remember/know which of them went where. If you are UK based (and not in a desperate hurry) I could e-mail you photos of what i've got, if you then tell me which one you need, I can bring it back home with me and post it to you.

Bob - Thanks for the offer. I'm in the US, so I'm not sure about logistics. I'll be working at the boat this weekend, so I can climb up into the rafters and see if I can get to the spar. If so, then I'll try to measure some of the dimensions from the turnbuckle I need. I was hoping to avoid that...its a long fall.

I've heard its not the fall the hurts, its the sudden stop at the end!

Thanks again,
Jack.
