Hello, I was given a nice sailboat and need a set of Sails and Misc parts, but I don’t know what type of boat it is. It measures 19’, no cabin (just an area up front to store gear), made by Siddons & Sindle Inc, NJ, has the number ‘9457’ inscribed in it and has a wooden mast. The seating arrangement is all teak. The trailer it is on was made in the early/mid 60's. Can you help me discover the make & model or point me in the right direction? Thank you, Art Angst ahangst@hotmail.com

Its a Lightning

Based on the number, length and manufacturer, its a Lightning. See http://www.lightningclass.com/ Used parts will be easy to find. Its a great boat for racing and day sailing and learning to sail. Most are raced and racers buy new sails almost everty year.

also...

Harry Sindle at Cardinal Yachts in Glouchester, VA builds Buccaneer 18s (my first boat) perhaps he can shed some light on this mystery. (See link below)

Lightning

The inscribed number is the hull number. Lightnings are still being built and I think they are up into the high 14,000s by now. There are a zillion ways to upgrade the old Lightnings to improve performance for racing. The lightningclass.org site is a good place to start. A new oval-section aluminum mast would be a good place to start if you have the cash to spare. You might also check out the centerboard and make sure it's still in good condition. If you need a new one, go with stainless steel. The best place to buy Lightning sails is North Sails. Quantum and Doyle (and others) also have them, but North has the best go-fast sails. I crew on Lightnings with Fleet 50 at the Washington Sailing Marina. I wish someone would give me a Lightning!!
