Liability only, or 'agreed value' insurance (under a certain price break) generally doesn't require a survey.
If all you want is to be covered in case you damage someones property, liability is the way to go. If you want your boat covered in case of damage, agreed value is generally the cheapest way to go.
People who are constantly upgrading and putting a lot of money into the boat would be better of to go with conventional full coverage insurance
I went with agreed value because while I love my boat, I have a realistic idea of what it would take to replace it, and in the event of accident, would rather get back on the water with the least hassle possible.
