Hi Catalina People

I owned a 36' Beneteau sold 5 years ago and now am looking for a boat again.
38'-40' range is the size that works and we started looking at Catalina. The inside of a Cat is huge with plenty of headroom. That will make my wife happy however I am wondering about the performance. I know that a Catalina is no Americas Cup vessel but I would like to possibly do some club races and am wondering about PHRF ratings etc. I want the best of both worlds with a boat and Beneteau offer Race- Cruisers. How do Catalinas stand up against a Beneteau 36.7 or 40.7? Race cruisers are usually tight down below so there s a trade-off.

You might enjoy one

There was a post on finding boats last week that had a link to a very determined and thoughtful fellow's website explaining his search for a cruising boat. He looked at all the usual suspects,l plus HR and PS and came up with a C380. I'm sorry I didn't bookmark it, but someone else might have. Instead of reinventing the wheel, essentially he did a thorough comparison with facts & figures and came to that conclusion. With you having had a Beneteau, a Catalina sails just as well and besides, you can actually access stuff for maintenance.:)
