After a month of waiting I got the call. The boat was a former rental boat that along with three others was put up in a sealed-bid auction. All were in usable condition but IMO this one was the best. The scuffs in the hull were only superficial.

The trailer is solid with no rust and a great set of wheels and tires. The winch is good and it just needs a kickstand wheel.

I snagged the best parts from the selection available between the four boats. There were little things broken but the hull was solid as a rock and I was not satisfied with the use of plastic here anyway. Look for stainless or foam-wrapped steel tubing to replace these in the future. As you can see, the boat was out in the elements for a while.

The rudder is interesting, it kicks up. The plates are IMO too thin, but I think the rudder had been allowed to loosen up and was never corrected. The play combined with users who likely didn't give a rat's hairy booty about the boat have destroyed it. This was the BEST one. I already have ideas to beef it up, no worries.

The centerboard is the swing up type and has some scrapage on the leading edge. The rudder did too. The mechanism works fine but I intend to rip it all out, clean and lube it and replace the control lines.

I think I managed to score the only cover. It was filthy but still very serviceable. A good scrubbing and an hour out in the hot sun and she's good to go.

The mast and boom are Dwyer and the blocks Harken. The years have not done much to them. They cleaned up with soap and water and a scotchbright pad. The cast aluminum ends had the accursed white rust. I gave them heavier attention. I pulled all the cordage off and tightened up the cleats, some were coming loose.

After a few hours the boat is already looking 100% better. I carefully scrubbed off the hull scuffs and gave it a quick wax.

I'm not feeling the stickers and stuff. I will likely get them off and polish the hull nice. Not sure if I will put a different graphics scheme on it or just leave it white, but this is definitely NOT my style.

I have another tab open as I type this, buying some parts! I need all new cordage, scupper plugs, and a few lil bits. I was worried I would need new sails, but not only did I get a serviceable set, but a full extra set new in the bag!
The boat isn't the only project. My intended tow vehicle needs a hitch fabricated. I had to call in a favor and borrow a buddy's truck to bring it home.

Uhm... I hope you're not going to tow it with the mast where it is in the last picture.

No. The trailer has a yoke up top for that. I am worried about kids grabbing at it up there though and people not noticing it sticking out from my driveway and smacking it with a truck.

Congratulations! What a concept! It's a perfect boat - if you want to spend your time out on the water sailing (and not maintaining plumbing and electrical wiring and engines and transmissions) Good luck, and enjoy it :)

Good looking boat. I bet it will move through the water easily with a trolling motor too!

I like it - but put the tow hitch on the car! You don't need the truck to move this thing 'round

It is very light, the boat is about 340lbs and the trailer likely the same. The neighbors seem impressed as I haul it around myself.

To heck with the boat... I want the tow vehicle! :D You must not be from around here... Those little trucks are not street legal in Alabama and most U.S. states. I wish they were, I have always wanted one.

Nice boat. Low maintenance and you can tow it with just about anything shy of a motorcycle. It looks like loads of fun. Take plenty of sun screen and one of those broad brimmed hats, not much place to get out of the sun.

Igor, my Daihatsu Hijet. 660 3-banger, 50hp of fury!

Those rims did not want to fit. I don't give up easy though. The sports muffler didn't want to fit either. I made it. The huge sound system and side skirts are in progress. Hitch gets the front burner at the moment.

Hope this helps. :D
They are over in Shreveport LA.

The Daihatsu has superior room inside but aftermarket support for the Suzukis is infinitely better.

Congrats on the boat, and thumbs-up from another fan of the truck :)

These trucks should be made legal in North America. They're ideal for scooting around downtown, and are just too cute to boot.

My boat from the same sale came with new sails and a cover too. I would post a picture but it looks the same. My trailer had some rust but this just means we can tell them apart.

You both understand that anytime two sailboats are going in the same direction it is a race, right? Y'all should sail together from the start, there is a lot to be learned from another person going through the learning curve at the same time you are.

Beer and margaritas always tastes better with sailing friends!

I say travel in pairs so one person can go for help. My father and I entered a sailing race years ago taking third place. Yes, there were only three boats in our group. I do not remember who won, only that we had fun.

Noticed the condition of the sail Do you have kids. Do you have a bathtub. Puts the kids and the sail in the bathtub with a little Dove dishsoap and play the mexican hat dance. The will cleanup a little. Better yet if you have access to a swimming pool the chlorine will do wonders. Fair winds...
