I was attempting my first oil change on my 93 Hunter 40.5 which has a yanmar 4jh2e the pump I was using is s***** and I am a dumbass and the 4 inch plastic tube for pumping the oil out fell down the dipstick tube.

Initial attempts to fish the tube out with electrical tape on the end of the dipstick are unsuccessful.

Is there a way to remove the dipstick tube? What are my options besides pulling the engine to remove the oil pan to retrieve this stupid piece of plastic?

Agghahaghhggg.

Trick Audi mechanic taught me for cars which rely on extraction method to change lube oil. Found a piece of rigid phenolic tubing of suitable OD at Lowes to fit into stuck tubing, slathered some Superglue on the tip, pushed into the stuck tubing, held for 1 minute and withdrew both.

The glue trick might work.

Kind of depends where the plastic has lodged. I have had luck with a 10 or 12 awg solid piece of copper wire. Slip into a tube and use it to drag the offending piece out. A U shaped hook on the end sometimes help.

I bet the dipstick tube is removable, it is on my Yanmar.

First it would try using a piece of bailing wire with a sharp hook bent in the end. Make it long enough so that it if you drop it cannot fall inside the tube.

I like @SycloneDriver idea, if the tube that came off is still in the dipstick tube. Bailing wire, or any solid copper wire (heck, a straightened out piece of clothes hanger may work), with a sharp hook on the end to catch the bottom of the errant tubing, and pull it out.

If it fell into the oil pan, that will not be helpful and will probably mean lifting the engine and removing the oil pan :(

Problem solved.

Thanks all! The dipstick is in fact removable and small gauge wire with a knot tied in the end pulled through from one end to the other got that silly tube out the engine is back together and running smooth.
