Thanks to all that posted responces to all my recent Hunter 28.5 concerns. So now I'm jst bustin' to let you know I closed the deal this past Saturday. So I'm now the proud owner of a 28.5 that I plan to call "Starry Night". The name suggested by my wife in the midst of a millenium celebration (complete with quart of rum) under an appropriate sky. A lot of my conviction to take the plunge came from all the realistic/positive comments from experienced owners. So now you guys are stuck with me, and all the questions I'll be posting in the process of familiarisation and upgrading/maintenance to be done. For starters, what products/techhiques are recomended for touch-ups to scratched/corroded areas on the painted mast/spars? See.. I told ya!!!! Thanks, Eric Grant S/V Starry Night

Have a grear time

I am sure that you will enjoy your new purchase. I have owned my 28.5 for over four years now and enjoy every minute that I can get out. It is so easy to sail and since I am alone often, single handing is a breeze. Sitting here cant wait for 3 1/2 more months till we are in the water again. Enjoy.

congrats!

Even though I just sold my 28.5 and now own a 33.5, I'll be happy to give you lots of free advice on your new lady friend. I'm sure you will be very happy with her. If your mast is down or you can reach the bad spots from the deck, just sand, prime and paint them with an appropriate matching paint color (white?) If you can't reach them then you'll have to wait 'til the stick comes down. Without seeing your mast, this is probably not a serious problem.

Have Fun, Enjoy, Upgrade, Sail, Paint, Sand, Polish, Scrub, Mend, Repair, Haulout, Pumpout, Hangout, Worry, Fret, Place-a-bet, Spend, Spend, Spend, Navigate, Appreciate, but most importantly Celebrate. Yep, boats are fun work.

Welcome to the club!

Welcome to the club! I predict you will love your 28.5. Because of the age of our boats (mine is an '87) there are some things that will need fixing but it is a great boat to sail. Come to the Chesapeake Bay some day.

No the hard work begins (and reward)

Eric, Do yourself a big favor and repeat after me: I realize boats are alot of work. I also realize the work will never, ever be done. But since I realize this to be true and that the work is part of the joy of sailboat ownership I will enjoy it. Even when the wind is blowing at 15 knts on a sunny 80 degree day and I am working on my boat while every other boat at the marina is heading out....I still will enjoy it. I will enjoy it because it still beats the hell out of mowing the lawn or going to work. Have a blast. We are! Doug

First "best day"

Congratulation. You have now completed the "First" best day of a boatowner. The "next" best day will be the day you sell her. (After twofootitiis sets in) Lots of luck with her and enjoy. I'm still thrilled with last year's purchase of my H33.

Bras d'Or Bound

Congratulations Eric! Excellent choice.....I used to charter a Hunter 28.5 off the Southern California Coast and have always wanted to purchase one of my own. I'll bet you bought that one that was advertised on the web in the Halifax area...she looked to be well outfitted. We just purchased property on Cape Breton Island on the Bras d'Or Lake. Found a great place at McNab's Cove to set anchor. Hope you swing by sometime!
