hydraulic ram

Today when I was puting my boat back on the trailer the hydraulic ram would not engage, after about 10 minutes of pumping and opening and closing the valve did it engage. Can anyone advise me on how I go about servicing the hydraulic ram or should I replace it. Not being able to lift the keel would be a major drama, has any one else experienced this problem.

Air lock...

Tom, It sounds like an air lock in the hydraulic ram. I have had this happen and the instruction I received from Lind at Hunter is to open the valve, pump the handle about 100 times and close the valve. This should clear the air lock and the hydraulic will work as expected. I have had this happen a number of times over the past three years. /Ernie
