I am considering purchasing a 1979 Morgan 38 which I will place on stands and will be preparing the boat for a re-launch once I have ck'd out her systems and replace what needs to be replaced and general refitting where necessary. In otherwords, it is a project boat of sorts and I already know that I have through hulls to replace, plumbing lines and electric etc... However of concern, is the head furling system OEM to the boat made by Hyde Streamfurler. Solid aluminum rod that is both the head stay and furler. I have read that the system is still being manufactured and one can purchase kits to replace bearings and make them usable again. I have reviewed the site.
But its original to the boat and obviously old. In the interest to hold down costs, do you think it can be a safe and reliable furler after the bearings are replaced by the kits that are available? or should it simply be replaced with acurrent furling system. Any and all input is appreciated.
