I am pulling the transmission from my 1983 30 O'day. It is mated to a Universal 16 Hp diesel. The tranny has the number 05-05022 on it. That's it! anyone know which model Hurth this is?

If you have an M25 engine, it's most likely the ZF 5
The Engine is something like 2516 ( I know it ends in 16) the M- designation started on later models. I understand that the ZF-5 is the same thing just renamed after a merger.
I just can't understand why there is nothing on my tranny to ID it. The tranny works fine but loses about a cup of tranny fluid every 25 miles. I can't figure out were it is coming from. Maybe I could mock something up and bench test it over a period of time using an electric motor.

Have you tried running it with a paper towel under the transmission and associated area to locate the source of the leak?

Well it is a HBW50. I pulled it and tore it down. There is a 7.5 mm ball bearing and a spring missing from the clutch pack. They are not in the bottom so it must have been apart before. I found the spring in
Florida. A ten pack of the steel balls in England and the Gaskets and seals in Seattle. Wish me luck.
