I've been having a small problem with the Hurth transmission on my '84 C30 with M25 Universal 21 HP diesel. A few times, typically when cold, like backing out of a slip in a crowded marina at 7am, the transmission has refused to engage in forward gear. This can really get your blood pumping!I tried the reccommended adjustment to assure adequate movement of the selector arm on the side of the transmission but to no avail. I tried a cure mentioned in the Mainsheet which discussed flushing the transmission with mineral spirits to remove glaze - nothing. At the end of the season I pulled the transmission out with the idea of either rebuilding or replacing it. I was finally convinced by a dealer to replace it. I did find was that when I took the side cover off, the actuator could be moved to the forard postion and sure enough it would engage. But when the slightest amount of force was applied directly to the actuator which would move it back toward the neutral position, it would disengage, (less than 0.025"movement). Now I have a "Rebuilt" Hurth on my workbench, right beside my old unit, (haven't returned it for credit yet). I have not taken the side cover off the rebuilt one but it seems to act the very same way. What's going on?? Do I have a bum rebuilt? Does this mean nothing? Should I keep the old one? While I enjoy working on the boat, this isn't a task I'd care to repeat needlessly. Your thoughts are most welcome. Thanks, Bill
