Well I did what I thought was best and hauled my boat. The storm surge lifted my boat off the jack stands (along with about a dozen of my new closest boating friends) and deposited us at the end of the dock in a heap. My mast was held upright by a power line and she sits on her keel with other boast jammed in around her. My question is this...assumeing that there isnt a lot of damage done by the boat floating to where it is, will she be damaged by sitting on her keel for several weeks till a crane is rented to sort out the mess. this of course assumes that the dock does'nt crash and all the boats fall into the river. the attached photo shows my boat Banana Wind.

Sickening... but could be worse, I guess

Man, it must be horrible to see your boat in that kind of predicament. I just showed the photo to the warranty mgr here at Signature Yachts and he doesn't think the keel will be much of a problem. Looks like the bigger issues will be the rudder and possibly where the other boats have banged into it. Hang in there!

The keel can support the boat

According to my marina, the entire weight of the boat is supported by the keel. The side supports are placed to keep the boat from tipping over. I would worry that the boat may rock onto its rudder, which cannot support much weight. BTW, I too had my boat hauled, but fortunately the storm surge was not enough to float it off the stands. However, the marina was not so fortunate, as they had about 4' of water in their office and adjoining buildings. Also, two of the docks were damaged, including the one where my boat is usually berthed. I lucked out. :^) Hope you boat makes it out ok. ~ Happy sails to you. _/) ~

Hurican Isable Damage

Regarding your keel; Providing your boat's weight is evenly distributed over the keel as shown in the picture, she should be alright. My 23' Oday Tempest sits on her keel every 12 hours during low tide and I have had no problems as the keel is designed to support the weight of the boat. That said, I am looking for another boat, something with an enclosed head for the long cocktail runs, A vessel with more speed to do better in the Little Creek Regatta and still be able to get under the Lesner bridge (35 feet). Let me know if anyone wants to sell due to storm damage.

Get some jackstands

Try to get some jackstands under the boat so that it will be balanced. Also, try to get some under the stern so that she won't rock onto the keel. Be careful, good luck.
