Hello Hunter 38 owners
I have a 2006 38 with no factory air installed, the boat was bought without air.I understand the 38 usually came with 2 units, fore and aft cabin if ordered with factory air.The boat has the vents overhead in the main salon and is probably set up for a easy install.Question........Where are the air conditioners units placed and how is the duct work conected to the overhead vents in the salon and foreward cabin.
thanks
Richard

The units are typically placed in a settee or under a berth....

the overhead vents are just that, they vent in to the spaces between the deck and the headliner and out to coaming vents on either side of the cockpit. NOT used for AC, though you wonder why builders don't mold AC ducts in at build time...?

AC vents are placed where convenient and the 4" hose connects them to the individual units, there are distance, bend, and number of vents limits set by the manufacturer.

Nothing easy about running the AC ducts,
Even tougher can be the needed water and electrical lines and adding an adequate size thruhull. Luckily, some of the units are free standing as far as freon is concerned, so you are not usually running those any more.

The ac on the 38 was a factory option. The ac unit would be placed under the aft seat of the settee. The factory did set up the 38 with the duct box only under the forward settee bench and also under the aft port mattress. The electrical panel does have the breaker labeled "ac" but is not wired. The overhead vent that your referring to is for the outside cowl.

2006 Hunter 38 air conditioning headliner vents

I found the H 38 owners manual on line thanks to to this site.In fact,on page 63b-2 ,it shows the hard duct work fore and aft connected to the air conditioner and ventning thru the exposed vents in the headliner.
