First time poster but long time lurker. I'm going to take the plunge with one of these two Hunters. The thirty has a newer mast, new holding tank, water pump & batteries. The Vision is in nice shape but I'm not sure about the age of some of the equipment. Both have a winged keel so the shallow water in my area is fine. They are virtually the same price. This is going to be a weekend sailer with the occasional overnight trip. I'm leaning toward the 30. Any opinions on ease of handling? My wife and I are newbies and want something that is easy to sail. Thanks for any opinions.

Not sure how you'll get opinions. I had a Vision for nine plus years and my wife and I loved it. Since i didn't have a 30 or 33, I have no point of comparison. I will say I am sold on the free standing rig and miss it except when going for trophies. Good sails and a folding prop will make a big difference in pointing for the 32 (actually, for both).

We have a Vision 36 (thanks to Mr. Dinon). I could not be happier with the boat. The performance is really good and not having standing rigging is great.

I would look into what each boat needed. That 30 could need new rigging, where the vision could need new sails. Both are expensive. How about the engines? Also I would look into resale as you will someday want something else. I never sailed a Vision, but was onboard one and liked it, others hate the looks. Take your time, what ever you do. Try to find someone with like boats to sail with.

I owned a 91 30T and loved it. It would sail better than the the 32. But with that said, the 32 is much bigger down below than the 30. You should decide what are the most important features you like then go with the boat that meets your criteria.

I love my Vision 32. The worst thing about the boat is the negative comments you find on the forums about it. Go sailing on both, spend the weekend on both, then decide for yourself. We chartered a Beneteau 32 in the BVI this summer that was 2 years old. Hands down, liked our 22 y/o Vision better.

Own the original 30 from the 70s like you am a new sailor. It is a wonderful boat to sail. Balances well fast for it's size.

Can't speak to the newer 30 or the Vision but only gripe with mine is the stays make going forward in rough seas a little tricker than I might like.
