I know this was discussed recently. Please remind me of the teak finish Hunter used on the interiors of 1970 to 1980 boats. Where do you buy this and how is it applied? Thanks ps- Has anyone come across a late 1970s 30 foot hunter with teak coaming tops. Was this a factory install or aftermarket? I have never seen another one done this way. From over head the teak looks like a cleat or a whale tail.

That's got to be aftermarket.

Hunter did not spend that kind of money in their Cherubini 30's"

Dalys Seafin

Check Archives - Lots on teak and Daly's Seafin From a prior post: Try using Dalys SeaFin Teak Oil I have used Cetol on my last boat and it can chip or peal. I found that using Dalys SeaFin Teak Oil is much easier to use and keep up. Teak Oil doesn't build up like Varnish or a Poly Coat, so next time you don't have to strip it or sand as much. I found this product in my Hunter owners manual. After using this product my teak looks like a new boat from the factory. Dalys SeaFin Teak Oil has a nice sheen, unlike the Cetol with the glossy varnished look. If you are interested let me know, I may have Dalys Phone Number. D. Custom would be my guess.

Rad: I have seen a lot of Cherubini Hunter's and have never seen any teak on the coaming. I would assume that this is a custom job that some did to the boat. My guess may be that there was some damage and they are covering something up. Most of the early Hunters only had "oiled" interior finish. The next generation use the Daly's Seafin finishes which I consider as an excellent alternative to any other interior finish.

Dress up suggestion...

One of the "improve your boat" books had teak coamings as a project to add some beauty to an otherwise plain exterior. I would suspect some PO followed through on this thought and did just that.

Daly for sure.

I used Dalys, purchased thru West Marine. After removing all my cushions I lightly sanded the interior of my boat with 400 grit wet/dry paper. I then used a rag dampened with mineral spirits as a tack cloth to remove sanding dust/residue. Next I used a Dalys dampened rag to wipe down all the woodwork and a brush to reach into the cracks and crevases (spl)that the rag couldn't reach. After 8 hrs drying time I repeated this process four times/coats. This left the woodwork looking better than new with a satin finish and I only used about a quart to do all the interior woodwork on my 35.5 Legend. I have another quart on hand and will use that to periodically wipe down the woodwork and do touch ups prior to closing up the boat. I hope this helps, Fair Winds, Bill
