Hunter replacement rudder assembly

I have a 2001 Hunter 340 with a replacement rudder that had some play in the bottom "bushing". When checking the play (measuring side to side and back and fore) the black (polyethylene I think)bushing dropped down and rested on top of the rudder making the play worse. Pushing it up firmly as far as it would go eliminated the play. I dropped the rudder to inspect the assembly and am confused why the black bushing is not fixed in place. Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated.

No specific Hunter knowledge, but I think generally the rudder bushing can be held in place with some adhesive.

Alternately, if the rudder is all the way up, does it hold the bushing in place?

I would put some adhesive on it and shove it up in the hole.

The rudder doesn't hold the bushing. There is a 1" to 1--1/4" gap. I'm thinking adhesive as well.

I Did see that some posted on your other thread “not to use adhesive” on the bottom bearing…but I don’t know why.

If it doesn’t “stick” in the hole, and the rudder doesn’t hold it up in place, I would use some adhesive…just not 5200 :(
