I have an 01 Hunter Passage 420. She has developed a leak, which I think is at the rub rail, but am not certain. I'm getting water coming at the master stateroom 'window' below the rub rail. This is not the opening port above it, which is fine. I pulled the trim off the inside of the window, and all looked fine. the water seemed to be coming from above through the insulation.

Has anyone else had leaks at the rub rail? If yes, what did you do to repair it?

Thanks!

I had the same issue.
You need to pull the rub rail
On mine there was a stainless cover plate.
There are screws holding the deck & hull together.
Sometimes there are leaks if the area wasn't sealed well.
Also, some if the screws that held on my run rail weren't put in properly.
Once you pull the rub rail the problem areas will be obvious.
Don't put this off. Mold in the lining is bad stuff

Take pictures and report back when you have discovered and fixed the leak. I am curious to see what you find.

as you can see in the pic , the deck is cracked at the flange along the seam. I can only guess that when the boat was pulled out of the water last year, the pressure of the sling here caused it to crack. Major repair I would guess, especially as it's where the sling is supposed to be set. I"ll probably 5200 it until I can get her pulled and properly repaired.

any ideas on this are welcome

Check manual

I noticed in my 420 manual it states that 2x4 blocks should be inserted just under the rubrail and slings when using a travel lift. There is to much pressure on the sling to rubrail area and can crack or distort the joint.

Well I didn't see that and am pretty sure that's the reason for the failure. Thank you for the info.

Before you do anything I think you should call your insurance company.

And yes the manual does say to put a 4x4 at the sling tp prevent this.

I'm afraid that after a year, there's not much chance of insurance coverage. I didn't realize there was a leak for quite a while after the boat was pulled, but should have called then.

Nothing lost to call regardless and ask, right?
