Hunter Legend 37.5, Moving Furler from below deck to above deck

I have a Furlex 200S furler on a Hunter Legend 37.5 that is below deck. I do not like this configuration as it does not allow for proper servicing (Lubricating, etc) unless the mast is taken down. Has any moved the furling trim above deck? I know in theory what has to be done, so I am looking for some practical knowledge of someone who has done this. I am not concerned about cutting the genoa and losing sail area

Do you anchor out? If so, carefully consider the location of the drum. I was just on a boat the other day where the above deck drum was low and so close to the anchor roller that it interfered with the anchor shank. My furler has long links plates that keeps it well off the deck, as well as keeping the sail from hitting the bow pulpit.

Our boat came with a below deck Hood brand double line furling drum. It requires no servicing/lubrication, but a regular fresh water rinse. No plan to raise it above deck.

When I replaced my original Hood furler on my 35.5, I looked into moving it above the deck. But the clearance between the drum and anchor locker convinced me to leave it below deck. I opted for a new Hood Seafurl-5 which allows me to easily lift the drum up for cleaning and maintenance, but a good flush of fresh water us usually all I need to do.
Another HAPS member with a 37.5 has moved his furler above deck with no issues. I looked at his setup and he used a couple of flat straps to raise the drum just above the deck.

Swapped my below deck Hood curler for an above deck Profurl. The only issue in olved removing a corner of the anchor locker lid so that it cleared the furlong drum when opening

Thanks everyone for you input. Some good options for me to look into. Rjarrell, between the large main and the genoa there is fair amount of sail area, I was wondering if you saw any performance issues (Speed, upwind pointing, etc) after you cut the foot of the genoa. Thanks

I fix not cut the foot of the Genoa. I cut a corner off of the anchor locker lid so that it would clear the furling drum when opening or closing
Depending on the size of your drum this may not be necessary
