Hunter - How to convert dinnette to bed?

We just purchased a Hunter 430 1995 and our owner + Realtor left as soon as they made the sale. We've been trying to figure out how to convert the dining table to a bed. I'm 99% sure it converts as it comes with extra cushions the same size as the table top!

When we take the table top and post off, the base has a tall metal rod that is taller than couch level (picture to demonstrate as boat is not with me now). We've tried to retract it / remove it by twisting it.. but it's locked in place.

Any ideas?

Most tables are lowered by loosening the know below and leaning on the table and pushing it down then lock the knob. The rod is a gassfilled cylinder that will shrink if pressed down.

Also, sometimes adding a mattress topper helps even up the inevitable bumps. Depends on whether you have storage space.
