I am reading a lot of sailing forums and there are many opinions how newer production boats are not as good as older boats for cruising and blue water passages.
This may be true but I bought our Hunter 29.5 because I like new design and roominess inside. I don't want mushy smell or 30 years boat and I don't want to take a risk of finding "well maintained" old boat.
In any case I find I use my boat more than many "blue water" boats in our club that seldom leave the dock. However, I sail on Lake Ontario and do mostly weekend and 2-3 week cruisers in summer. I try to pick a good weather window and mostly limit myself to day passages 6-12 hours long. For my use Hunter boat and any production boat is more than adequate.
I would be interested to hear stories of Hunter boats cruising for longer period of time in Bahamas, Caribbean and coastal areas of USA.
What was owner experience and would they do it again in a Hunter?
