I just found out that Hunter is making a backup rudder system for the 38, 41 426. 44 and 46 for $750. Has anyone out there purchased or tested one? Would love to hear a critique of the system--photos also appreciated if available. Thanks.

Could you provide any details on the construction? Specifically, is the skin of the rudder sheet aluminum or stainless and perhaps any details on the stock and ribs it's wrapped around. Would also love to see a pic of the upper portion at the tiller (or whatever it is.) I'm surprised they've priced it at $750. I KNOW I couldn't get it fabbed around here for that. That's some damned cheap insurance. If I had to choose between a good backup rudder and a liferaft or EPIRB for true offshore passages there's no doubt which I'd choose.
