Alot of the people on the BB's were upset that Hunter was giving away all this equ. I don't know why they cared what Hunters gives away.

Well...I guess...

I didn't get that good a deal after all! They are now giving for FREE all the stuff (and even more!!) that was part of my negoiations when I bought my 460. This kind of promotion really affects the resale value of my boat, and that doesn't make me too happy!!!

Mark, be glad it;s not a ....

Mark, You can't worry about stuf like that. Heck if you bought a Hunter 460 computer instead of a boat. It would alreadt be twice as fast, cost half as much, and have better stuff on it too! :))))) Remember many of the big boats have this stuff on it anyway, so all they due is discount the inflated retail price anyway. Heck I'm sure we all negotiated big discounts when we bought, didn't we? Enjoy the sailing Bob Knott H380

Freebies vs. discounts.

I haven't bought a new boat, but if it is anything like buying a car, you pay for the freebies either by way of a higher initial cost or as Bob notes, less negotiating flexibility. Hunter probably negotiated some package deals with the component manufacturers that resulted in some savings. But given the current economic market and demand for boats, I would be surprised that Hunter is really taking deep discounts on their product (I don't know, maybe the fiberglass arches really were a big selling point). So don't be so sure you really missed out on the "great deal." I'm also not sure why the promotion would affect the resale value.

I was told...

...at one of the boat shows that these types of incentives are being offerred instead of providing cost reductions on the boats. Thereby, less negotiating is done and more giveaways.

Economy

Sailors, This is an announcement of an economic downturn. Wonder if Greenspan knows?
