Hunter 701 I'm in the process of buying my first boat. I'm looking at a Hunter 701 (contructed '72?) which has come up for sail in my own club. The boat looks a bit tatty and is in need of some TLC but appears sound. The owner has given me a copy of a recent survey by a reputable company. I've sailed a 701 before and found them to be sturdy and forgiving. Can any one offer me any advice before proceeding? The boat's in the water and I intend to take it for a test sail soon.

I believe you have mistaken another boat as that of Hunter Marine. I believe Hunter started building in 1974 with the 25. Further there is no designation of that kind from Hunter

Is this a different maker? The survey that I've got details the boat as a 23' fin keel cabin yacht hunter 701 no 22 ssr22190 built by Hunter boats Ltd and designed by Oliver Lee. There are about four of these boats that I know of in the Firth of Forth where I sail. Perhaps some one could clear this up for me?

Hunter confusion
In the UK, Hunter Marine (a US company) markets their boats inder the "Legend" brand name because there is already another company DBA Hunter in the UK. I think this might be one of those boats, but I don't think anybody here is going to know much about it. But let us know what you find out, we would be interested.

Yes, Hunters (the ones made by Hunter Made in Alachua, FL, USA) are sold under the brand name "Legend" in UK, because there is an existing boat buyilder there named Hunter. This must be a UK-built Hunter. the advice given is good; check with the Legend Owners Assoc., I'll bet they can point you in the right direction. Sorry we couldn't help! p.

My mistake!
I've managed to track things down to the builders Hunter Boats Ltd based in the UK. The boat was built in 1971. The web site for the company is www.hunterboats.com for anyone interested and they have listings of boats past and present together with pictures. Thanks for everyones help. Ken Wilson
