I have an 07 Hunter 49 with Selden in-mast furling. While greasing the furling winch I noticed that there is roughly 1/8 - 1/4 of play between the bevel gears (in mast). This play only occurs when there is no load on the bevel gears. The top bevel gear has zero free play in it. The 1/8" movement is only in the lower (horizontal) bevel gear assembly. The furler is working without issue at this point when under sail. There are no signs wear on the bevel gears. Is this amount play normal or do I need to look at replacing the needle and ball bearing in this assembly? I have read the available Selden service manuals and have not found anything.
