I always believe manufacturer put in equipment that just about meet the spec as it affect their cost or bottomline. If I were to buy a new boat again, I would opt for next larger engine from the standard issue.

Go with the 110

Hunter had a mariner package which included the 110hp engine.
It also had an upgraded alternator.
As well, the mariner package had lots of other upgrades.
Essentially, if you are buying a 75hp 49, you are also missing out on some other nice goodies, like Bose sound system, etcetera.

There are many other things you should be considering if you are looking at a 49.
I would highly reccomend the in mast furling.
Lots of things to verify, such as prop, battery installation, type of charger, etc.

Great boat. Good luck!

Hunter 49 engine

We are currently looking at one that has lots of goodies on it but with the 75hp engine. Should this be a deal breaker? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The "goodies" you speak of are probably items you could typically upgrade or install on a boat. An engine isn't one of them
I know that our 110 hp pushes the boat along quite well. We have a 4 blade variprop. A feathering prop is essential on this boat

What kind of speed do you get with the 110hp? We have a feathering prop on our 410 and love it. I'm finding in our search that the Mariner package came with many options.

Off shore I would rather have a 75 instead of the 100 I have now. With the turbo I have to clean it if running at low RPM's instead of running slow on a 75. However in the inside passage to Alaska the additional power and not running the sails helps quite a bit. It would depend on how you use the aux power.

We easily get 8-9 knots with moderate rpm, and in any kind of sea condition.
I highly recommend the 4 blade vari prop.
My buddy with a 49 had the Gori prop with "overdrive"
Created huge problems, and he finally junked it. If you look online, people aren't very happy With the Gori for the same reason
When you get your 49, I'll give you a list of neat fixes & upgrades.
Terrific boat.
Btw, buy one that has the genoa tracks installed on the deck.
The self tacking foresail is somewhat under powered, and if you want to do distances, you'll want a full genoa.

Great info on all counts. Would never buy the Gori. We have an Autostream and love it. I will keep you posted. The search continues ...

Autostream not big enough

The autostream is a nice prop, but not suitable for the 49
According to the data I found, it isn't available in 4 blade, and has a top rating of 80 hp
I would go with either Max prop or Vari.
I have the Vari, as do many 49 owners.
I know a dealer who gives excellent prices, and is a very reliable guy.
Really important to go with in mast furling on the 49.
It makes the boat super easy to handle
Look at things such as what charger / inverter is installed
If it is Xantrex, you are in for a replacement.
The 49 is a well built boat. But lots of things to consider

One more question ...looking at owners manual. Appears fuel tank is under aft bunks. Is this the case and If so, any issues with fuel oder? Thanks

Hunter 49 Caribbean
I have no smell in aft. I am also the guy who made an artificial reef out of my Gori prop. Go with 4 blade vari prop. I hope you buy a 49. It's fantastic and have not found a similar sized production boat I would trade for. Been cruising caribbean on one for 2 years.
