After 2 close calls with the 50 amp shore power inlet almost burning up, I decided to replace it.
There are many, many articles written regarding the unsuitability of the twist lock plugs / receptacles for marine usage. These have caused innumerable boat fires, and it’s totally understandable . The contact area on a 30 or (especially ) 50A inlet is pathetically inadequate. These plugs were designed in the 1950s for applications far removed from marine or RV service.
I decided to install the 50A Smartplug, which has innumerable technical advantages.
The smartplug receptacle is on the exact mounting hole as the existing Marinco, so it’s a dead drop in replacement

If you want to see lots of pictures of burned out twist lock receptacles, there are several web sites showing this.
This upgrade is good insurance, plus it’s a lot easier to insert & remove the smart plug.
For reference, the PN is B50ASSY
