Different model boat here, but close. It would help if we had a picture or two of the locker. Some do not like the P42 locker due to its shallowness design, but once you learn to work with what you have, I'm pleased with ours after anchoring hundreds of times. One must hand feed the chain/rope into the locker as it spools off of the windlass to avoid bunching and jamming. Whether that is the issue with that model boat, perhaps a 460 owner will chime in.

It may not address this issue but if you haven’t done so already, check out the owner reviews for that model. There are 20 reviews posted there.

Welcome to the SBO forums. Merry Christmas.

Looking at the images of the 460 (recent vintage 2001 available in Tacoma) they are very nice boats.

The image of the anchor locker did look small for the reported 300 ft of chain and 150 rode. Plenty for anchoring in the Pacific NW. It has a Delta SS anchor. They look pretty, some find their performance (especially for a 26000 lb displacement boat) lacking.

As Terry shares, you can usually work out a compromise with an anchor locker if the boat rings all of the bells for you otherwise.

That would be one great Christmas Present.
Good Luck

There are 2 Anchor lockers on my H430.

1) the Bow which is standard Hunter design
2) Bigger one behind number 1 and where my windlass chain is.

Welcome to the forum!!

One potential issue is the anchor locker drain hole may not be flush or slightly higher than the floor which prevents full draining which leaves a wet/dirty anchor rode. That is what I found on my Hunter 46 (same design as Hunter 460). So I built a raised platform made of King StarBoard (Marine HDPE board) consisting of a sold platform with legs screwed into each side. Now the anchor rode is always dry/clean.

I will add.............you will enjoy the 460's large anchor locker size AND you will love its performance and comfort due to its displacement.

Thank you all, I will check the position of the drain! The reports I have read allude to the bulkhead rotting due to the anchor well design holding water. I was wondering what the design issue is as many suggest raising the floor.

Also if anyone has had to replace the bulkhead, what is involved in doing this?
