HUNTER 456 2002? Real or not?

I am new to this forum and I was wondering if any one could answer a question about hunter 456’s?
If you bring up data on Hunter 456’s it states that the first 456 was built in 2003. However I am looking at purchasing one that says it is a 2002 model. Would it be a 456 or the last year of a 450?

Any assistance on this would be appreciated.

Can you get the Hull ID number?

Not sure that SailboatData.com is infallible….

The only way to confirm this would be to have the owner, broker, or other confirm the date of manufacture with a photo of the hull ID number which is cast into the rear starboard corner of the boat. The LAST two digits of the hull ID will give you the year of manufacture.

the VIN number would be definitive, but I believe some 456s were built in 2002. In 2002 the 356, Glen Henderson's first boat for Hunter, went into production, introduced at the 2001/2002 boat shows. I've been told by trustworthy Hunter people That the 456 also was introduced in 2002 (later in the year). Marketing wanted a boat in between, too, but Glen refused, saying that they couldn't do three new designs that year. Marketing insisted, so Henderson rolled out the 426 at the end of 2002. BUT, the 426 was actually a 456 with minor deck modifications. years later, I went to look at a used 426 and was floored by how big it was! I called some of my friends at Hunter and got "the rest of the story". BTW, a 426 could be a real deal, substantially less than a 456 if you find one

Kappy, close. The last FOUR digits are key. J1 means 10th month (J) of 2001 is when the hull was molded with the HIN number, the last two digits 02 mean it was built as a 2002 model.

HUN 452 - 77th Hull made , Molded by Hunter in Jan in 2002.

Most likely listed as a 2003 when Finally finished.

PS: 452 is the 456. Designed water line on a fully loaded boat.
